How to Choose a Tire for Your Mountain Bike

One of the most important components on your mountain bike is your tires. They grip the ground and provide the traction you need on different surfaces. Most mountain bike riders look for light weight, strength and traction in a tire and many advanced riders even have multiple sets of tires for different riding conditions.

So what tire is right for your mountain bike and riding style? With so many different manufactures and models to choose from which one is right for you? These are not easy questions to answer so hopefully we can provide some insight to get you moving in the right direction. Mountain bike parts are not cheap and you want to make the right decision.

Tire Construction:

Consider a Kevlar bead or folding tire - A Kevlar tire weighs an estimated 60-80 grams less then a conventional none folding tire. It does not sound like much of a weight savings but multiple that number by two and then consider the rotating weight. For an extra couple of dollar, in my opinion, it is worth spending the extra money.

Terrain and Tread patterns:

Determine where you are going to ride and how you are going to use the bike. As an example will you be riding on the local trails that are hard packed dirt or on slick rock?

For hard packed terrain consider a narrower and smooth tire. As an example a tire that is 1.8 to 2.0 wide.

For hard packed terrain with a good mix of rocks you might want to consider a wider and smooth tire. As an example a tire that is wider then 2.0.

For loosely packed terrain consider a knobby tire. Choose a tire with a really aggressive pattern as this will help you gain maximum traction in the dirt. You might also want to consider tires that are designed for the front and rear of the bike.

For muddy terrain consider a narrow tire. Narrow tires will reach the bottom of the mud and create less resistance when turning making it easier for you to move forward.

For all terrain tires there are so many choices to consider. Many of the major tire manufacturers make very good tires that are great for all conditions.

Riders Body Size:

Consider your body size. If you are heavier you might want to consider a wider tire.

Where to buy:

You can buy your tires at a bike store, order them from an online website or from an individual sell tires posted on a mountain bike classifieds website.

The information above is a rough guide on what to consider when buying new mountain bike tires. Many bikes stores that have bikes for sale and bike parts can also give you their opinion. Talk to your friends and read online forums to see what other riders like and don’t like. The more information you have the better.

See you on the trail.

Tips to Choose Your Motocross Helmet

There are a few things you should keep in mind when choosing your helmet. This article deals with some information about helmets and how to go about choosing the right one for you. Don’t think of getting on a motorcycle without one on, as it can be very dangerous and a risk not worth taking.

Helmets

Helmets provide protection for your head and skull. Agreed, the skull is the strongest bone in the body, but it covers the most sensitive organ in the body, so it is imperative that you protect your head form impact and accidents. It has been studied that riders who crash without a helmet are five times more prone to get a head injury.

On the open road, full helmets protect you from flying stones, pebbles, insects and other small flying objects that can be a nuisance and can be dangerous, too.

Some myths about (good quality) helmets which are not true at all:

• Helmets cause head injuries.
• Helmets block your vision and cause accidents.
• Helmets don’t allow good hearing.

Features of helmets that work together to give you maximum protection you should look for while buying:

• Helmets have an impact absorbing lining material that takes the brunt in case of a crash. It is generally padded with absorbing polystyrene, which is placed so as to completely cover the inside. In case of a crash, the impact is evenly distributed through the material, thus causing less damage.
• Helmets are lined with comfortable padding so your head is in a comfortable cocoon. In some helmets, this padding can be removed to be washed or cleaned.
• Helmets have a retention system that keeps the helmet in place, even through all those hair rising stunts. This retention system generally is a chinstrap with D rings. This makes sure that the helmet stays on your head in the event of a crash.
• The outer shell is made from fibreglass, polycarbonate composites or moulded plastic.
• This outer shell protects your head from hard objects.
• The outer shell of the helmet is designed to take on most of the impact and deform instead of transferring the force inwards.

NOTE: Helmet damage might not be seen on the inside, so if you are involved in a crash, make sure you change your helmet immediately.

Choosing a Helmet

What Type?

There are different types of helmets available and you should choose according to your requirement:

A Full Face Helmet

This type of helmet provides the maximum protection. It covers and protects the entire head, face and chin area. It was studied that during head injuries, it was the face and the chin area that was affected the most. Such helmets even have the full face shields that protect your face and eyes as well, which is very important, especially at high speeds.

A Three Quarter Face Helmet

This helmet is an open face helmet, but covers the entire skull area. These helmets also offer protection, but not as much as a full face helmet, as they don’t cover the face and chin area. If you are wearing a three quarter helmet, wear a snap on shield or goggles. Sunglasses are ineffective, as they can shatter and harm your eyes, and nor do they prevent particles from entering your eyes, which is very dangerous.

Brightly Coloured Helmet

One of the things about protective gear is that it should allow people to spot that you are in the vicinity. A brightly coloured helmet suits fine, as it will stand out in the traffic, thus making people aware of your presence.

Other motocross apparel you should invest in:

• Face shields
• Shin guards
• Non-slip shoes
• Full gloves
• Goggles
• Jerseys
• Body Armour

Add some funky jewellery for the “bling” factor on the circuit. It is not advisable to wear the jewellery while racing, but it can definitely be worn afterwards. If you are interested in buying some jewellery, then you could consider the name . For more information, please click here: www.fmxjewellery.com.au

A good bike rack is easy to find if you know how and when you want to use the bicycle rack and understand your options and the available price ranges.

Need a good bike rack for a mountain bike, dirt bike, trick bike or other type of bicycle? Think about your needs before you shop online or go to a sporting goods store, or bike shop.

For $50.00-$100.00, you can get a two-bike rack to store your bicycles in your garage or shed. By mounting your bikes on the wall, you clear floor space and avoid damage to your bikes when they are not in use.

Bike hooks are less expensive (they are priced between $15.00 and $30.00) and some allow you to lock the bike in place to protect against theft if you are storing your bike in a common apartment store room or an open storage building. Ceiling mount bike lifts are priced between $25.00 and $50.00.

These lifts will get your bike well out of the way, and keep it safe until you want to use it again! So, instead of running over or damaging that expensive mountain bike, get yourself a good wall rack or bike hook, and use your garage floor space or storage space for other things.

You can choose from folding wall mounts, double folding wall mounts, ceiling or wall bike lifts, freestanding bike ‘trees', floor to ceiling bike racks, vertical bicycle racks and many other options.

If you prefer to take your bike on the road, you have many options for car and bus racks. You can choose a tandem bike racks, or a short or long tray bicycle carrier for the roof of your car.

These are priced between $100 and $200. Bicycle racks that fasten onto the back of your vehicle and are priced from $60 to $150, depending on the number of bikes you want to carry and the quality of the rear bike carrier you select.

Hitch bike racks are priced between $120 and $225 depending on the number of bikes you want to carry. If you want to put your bike in the back of a pick-up truck, you can choose from trap or full racks that are priced from $20 to $200.

Need a bike rack for an RV or a bus? ‘Tires only' bike racks are made from steel and come in standard and narrow profiles, for one, two or three bicycles. Some of these racks are sturdy enough to be used on city transit buses where the latches may be opened and closed many times and the racks may be subject to impact from other vehicles on city streets.

C-bracket bike racks fasten to the front bumper of a bus using existing holes on the bumper, though you will have to drill some holes to add stability, whereas the ‘stand-off' fastener uses brackets to fasten to the bumper and is easy to install. There are some specialty models for certain makes of trucks like Ford, and for certain types of buses that use Class III hitches.

Prices on these ‘industrial strength' models vary widely, so you'll need to check with the manufacturer and distributor to find one that fits your budget and your needs!

Whether you need a bike rack for the top or rear of your car, or for a storage shed or garage, or perhaps for an RV or bus, you can find everything you need by visiting our web site: Bike Rack

Formula Drifting is a form of car racing in which the cars are allowed to skid as they are moving. The sport originated in Japan but has become quite popular in other countries, especially in the last few years. For example, since 2004, when the first event was held in the U.S., the race has developed a very large following. In fact, Formula D racing has as many fans as NASCAR racing does.

Subsequently, many tire manufacturers are taking notice and getting more involved in sponsoring Formula D drivers and cars. As a reward for their sponsorship, they get to market their special tires. This article will discuss some of the most popular manufacturers to distribute drifting tires for regular vehicles.

Nitto Tire

Nitto Tire is one of the most popular tire manufacturers to create Formula Drifting tires. They create tires for all kinds of vehicles and driving situations. This includes creating Formula D tires for racing vehicles as well as tires for traditional vehicles., (including cars, trucks and SUVs). Their most popular model is the NT 555 RII.

BF Goodrich Tire

BF Goodrich Tire is a very popular tire manufacturer in the United States. Just like Nitto Tires, BF Goodrich Tires creates tires for all types of vehicles. For racing vehicles the company's drifting tires offer the best support of other brands.

Maxxis Tires

Maxxis Tires is not a tire manufacturer that is as well-known for the average person. This is because the company focuses on making tires just for car racing, whether it's traditional racing or Formula Drifting racing. So, don't look into Maxxis Tires if you need a set of tires for your regular vehicle.

Bridgestone

Bridgestone is the most popular manufacturer for Formula Drifting period. However, it should be noted that the company creates tires for both drift racing as well as other types of motor sports including supercross racing or monster truck racing. Bridgestone also creates tires for personal vehicles.

Other Lesser-Known Manufacturers

Several other lesser-known tire manufacturers also distribute Formula Drifting tires.

Examples of these manufacturers include Dunlop Tires, Cooper Tires, Toyo Tires and Falken Tires. You can find more Formula D tire manufacturers by searching for them on Google or investigating what is said in automobile racing magazines.

In conclusion, the trend of drifting will allow many to have these types of tires on their own cars as well. However, individuals should know that they should not use them to race their cars illegally. Only a professional car racer knows how to race in the safest manner. And even then there are accidents, especially since Formula Drifting requires skidding the car, a practice that is much more dangerous than traditional racing. For the average person, drifting tires will help improve the traction ability of their car, which can help them in making a quick turn that could avoid a potential accident. But this should be the only purpose for Formula Drifting tires designed for personal use.

How to Choose Motorcycle Windshields

Motorcycle windshields can be a great accessory to any motorcycle. Motorcycle windshields can give your motorcycle better aerodynamics, they can block the wind and the bugs and any other flying objects from hitting you in the face. However, they can also diminish your vision, and block your line of view. So what should you check for?

Check the height of the motorcycle windshields.

The height of the motorcycle windshields are important. If the motorcycle windshields are to short, they don't deflect the wind, bugs, flying debris, or rocks. If the motorcycle windshields are too tall, it can blur your vision with the splatter of bugs and dirt on the motorcycle windshields. In both these cases, the motorcycle windshields are doing the exact opposite of what they are supposed to do. Motorcycle windshields are supposed to improve conditions for the driver, but in both of these instances, the motorcycle windshields have affected the driver negatively. If the top of the motorcycle windshields is in the line of sight of the driver then the driver may have to scrunch down to see clearly, or the driver may have to stretch above the motorcycle windshields in order to get a clear view. Both stretching and scrunching can cause physical pain on the driver. When the driver physically feels stressed, that stress can take the driver's mind off the road and the hazards on the road causing accidents.

Check the tint of the motorcycle windshields.

The tint of motorcycle windshields can play an important role in the safety of the driver as well. If the motorcycle windshields are too dark, then it may affect the drivers vision in low light and during night driving. A dark tint can also affect the driver during fog and smog. A light tint or no tint at all can make it difficult to see in the brightest daylight when the sun is glaring off the pavement. If the motorcycle windshields are too dark to see in dark conditions then night driving and driving in the fog can be dangerous to the driver and to other drivers. If the tint on the motorcycle windshields are too light, and the glare hits the windshield off the street at just the right angle, it could blind the driver causing the driver to veer off the road into either oncoming traffic or a ditch. This could injure or even kill the driver and others as well.

Check the material of the motorcycle windshields.

If the material of the motorcycle is one that breaks easily, then one small hit from a foreign object can cause the motorcycle windshields to break into pieces. There is nothing worse then a rock hitting your motorcycle windshields and causing at the very least a crack to make the driver swerve at least momentarily. That short swerve could cause a chain reaction in other motorists. Most states have laws requiring that motorcycle windshields be shatter proof, so in addition to checking the strength, check your state's requirements.

Honda’s Zoomer scooter is the preference of champions in the MotoGP field. With its not-luxury look and ultra-reliability, MotoGP paddock champions find it as the only way to get around.

You will see the ultra-cool Zoomer all around the MotoGP field. Its exposed as well as minimal looks may seem very traditional but the scooter is far from it, suiting in well with the hi-tech world of MotoGP. On its middle part is an environmentally-friendly fuel-injected, liquid-cooled 50cc four-stroke motor which pumps out around 4bhp. Drum brakes front and rear drag the lightweight 84-kilo machine smartly, while the chunky balloon tires yield sure-footed handling.

In order to get around the busy paddock in the 18-round World Championship, Repsol Honda’s Nicky Hayden uses his 50cc Zoomer. Fully personalized, his machine comes in a cool, military camouflage green, and is made brilliant with Nicky Hayden stickers and Repsol Honda logos. Nicky, with so many demands on his time, needs a scoot that will always be ready to go and the Zoomer fully satisfies that need. He commented referring to the scooter that one can just get on it and go. He added that it never lets him down because it is so cool and it is perfect for the field.

Twenty-nine year old Shinya Nakano of Konica Minolta Honda also uses a Zoomer. The 1998 All Japan 250cc champ and 2000, 250cc World Championship runner-up thinks that it is the best in the paddocks. The Japanese star said that her Zoomer is fantastic because it is perfect for going from A to B around the paddock plus it looks so good. Unfortunately, the racer will be signing his Zoomer and giving it away in a competition.

But the Zoomer is not just for the race paddock. Bertie Simmonds, a motorcycle journalist said that he love the stripped-down looks of the thing and the fact that there are so many accessories one can really personalize the scooter. He uses his machine for running around the village where he lives. He continued that it is also perfect for roaming around and assured that it is fuss-free and 100 percent reliable that nothing can beat it.

The Honda Zoomer costs just £2007 on-the-road.

About Honda

Aside from making cars and their part like a Honda door handle, the Japanese company is also into ATVs, engines, aircrafts, generators, lawn and garden, motorcycles, outboard motors, personal water craft, water pumps, scooters, and snow blowers.

When you're out on the open ice, an ice fishing shelter is a necessity to during the longer periods of waiting for that catch. Anglers are protected from the bitter cold of the winter winds, and also from the sun's glare. The shelter allows for more comfort from the small amount of heat that you get inside, and also keeps the ice fishing hole open for longer before it ices over again.

The ice fishing shelter can be easily moved as it is portable, although you can get an ice fishing house which is a more permanent structure that is built for the mainstay of the fishing season. There are many ice fishing enthusiasts who use the convenience of the shelters so that they can move around to where the fish are, and the more permanent fishing house helps for those colder days out there on the frozen lake.

On today's market there is a quite a selection of ice fishing shelters to be found. The designs are usually easily collapsible so they can be moved and are made up like a tent in structure, very light in weight so that they can be compacted to fit easily into packages or a bag. Styles are varied, with a basic constuction is about the same for each fishing shelter:

1. ATV mounted - there has been a huge rise in ATVs (All Terrrain Vehicles) as they move easier across a lake to travel from the parking area to where the ice, which is whey there is an ATV mounted design. They are designed as either to extend from the storage bags that are mounted on the ATV, or so that they can be lifted or pulled onto the ATV by using dollies or lifts.

2. Flip Up/Flipover - These type of shelters have a semi-rigid bottom, which looks like a tub, that acts like a base of a sled so that it is easier to move, and this is the floor of the shelter when it is put up. The tub is useful for storing and transporting the ice auger, the tackle and any other gear that is needed. The sides with the canvas are just flipped over or up so the sides and the roof can be constructed in an ideal location. For storage, the frame just collapses down with the canvas folded down to be moved again. There are flipover styles that can hold up to four anglers and designed so that there is space for portable heaters and also to allow for more natural light, some clear plastic or vinyl windows.

3. Folding shelters - this is a traditional style tent for ice fishing, that is lightweight and is easily moved. Due to their lightness in weight, they may not cope with adverse, cold weather conditions and high winds. Most are small so aren't really made for standing in, although you can be larger versions.

4. Homemade shelters - you can make homemade shelters which can be more effective than the products that are commercially available. They are usually like the styles of the flipover or flip up shelters, or of structures that are fully collapsible tents. If you take a look on the internet you can find plans on how to make an ice fishing shelter that is low in cost and easy to make in your own home.

How to Choose an ATV

With so many ATVs out there designed for different purposes deciding which one is right for you can be tough. This guide will help you determine what type of ATV will be most suitable. It then goes on to explore what to look for in a used ATV to help you make the right buying decision.

It never ceases to surprise me how many ATV owners do little research before visiting a dealer or buying an ATV for sale online. Are they mad? A little research will ensure you don't make the same mistake and enable you to get the machine that best fits your needs, abilities and budget. The more research undertaken the happier you will be with your purchase. More times than I care to remmember I have made a purchase only to find a couple of weeks later a product that would have suited my needs much better. You simply can't afford to let that happen with an expensive product like an ATV or Four Wheeler.

The first thing to consider is your budget. How much can you afford to spend on your ATV? If you haven't previously owned one don't forget to make an allowance for the ancillary equipment that you'll need e.g. helmet, boots and gloves etc and a proper training course. Your budget will determine whether you should buy new or used although my preference would always be a used ATV as there are plenty of great deals available ATVs available and you don't take such a hit on vehicle depreciation.

The next most important consideration is the intended use of the ATV. You are unlikely to want a 4 stroke 4x4 if you are looking for a machine that is suitable for racing. Likewise you won't want a 2 stroke lightweight racing machine for towing things around the farm. This might sound obvious and it is obvious but I've lost count of the number of times I've seen machines bought that did not meet the owners requirements (especially online purchases).

So for towing and farm work check out 4x4 machines. These are the most expensive new so a used atv can save a couple of thousand dollars but remember to use the checklist below to make sure everything is in order before you buy. In my opinion Arctic Cat make some of the best 4x4 machines.

If its a speed machine that your looking for you'll want to be looking at Yamaha and Kawasaki who produce some awesome models that balance power and speed with good handling.

There is also a need to take account of your local riding conditions. Where do you intend to ride your ATV? If you don't know check out the local trails and see what sort of machines your fellow riders are using. Get their opinions. An interesting all round machine that suits quite a few different environments is the Polaris 400 4x4 which has a 2 stroke engine (very unusual in a 4x4). A great all round ATV for most trail blazers. It's biggest limitation is push and pull where a 4 stroke engine definitely has an edge due to it's greater torque.

What riding experience do you have? Make sure that the machine you buy matches your experience. If you've never ridden an ATV before please book yourself on a proper and extensive training course. It's a great investment and will help you get the most from yourself and your machine.

As I have expressed a preference for used ATV I thought it would be helpful to put together a check list of things to look out for and check with the owner before you buy.

Start by checking there is a full service history. Don't even go near a machine without a service history - you've been warned.

Electrics - check or ask if they all work and make sure there are no shorts, removed or damaged accessories.

Wheels - Check/Ask about the condition of rims - damaged rims are a sign that the bike has taken it's share of knocks and bumps.

Bodywork - Check/Ask about damage to bodywork and check things like flaps, instruments and levers.

Rear Axle - Check/Ask if there are leaking seals and the level and condition of the oil. Watery or muddy looking oil is a sign that there is a problem with seals.

Front Axle - Here you want to check/ask if there are loose steering joints, excessive bearing wear or suspension link movement.

Engine - Surprisingly ATV engines don't cause that many problems but watch out for, or ask about, smoking exhausts (sign of worn valves). Clattery noises heard whilst revving can point towards a worn camshaft or drive. Again notice the condition of the oil. If it is dark and thick it has not been changed with sufficient regularity.

Who owns it? ATVs are stolen all the time so always examine the engine and chassis number and check that no financing is in place by doing an online check. This can uncover if a used atv is stolen, accident damaged, had a registration transfer or has outstanding finance.

Follow these simple guidelines and you will greatly reduce the risks of choosing the wrong used ATV for you needs and avoid buying a pup.
